Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail

Yes we are meant to enjoy ourselves on vacation however, what you must ask yourself is your over indulgence helping you reach your aspiring goals. As Og Mandino said;

"And most of all I will love myself. For when I do I will zealously inspect all things which enter my body, my mind, my soul, and my heart.Never will I overindulge the requests of my of flesh, rather I will cherish my body with cleanliness and moderation. Never will I allow my mind to be attracted to evil and despair, rather I will uplift it with the knowledge and wisdom of the ages. Never will I allow my soul to be complacent and satisfied, rather I will feed it with meditation and prayer. Never will I allow my heart to become small and bitter, rather I will share it and it will grow and warm the earth."

I can not say it any better than Og Mandino you must cherish what you feed you body, mind, soul, and heart.

Maggie already made some great suggestions to utilize while on vacation (and they are also true for your fast paced daily routines as well); eat protein in the morning, mix in salad (eat the colors of the rainbow), stay hydrated (remember half your body weight in ounces), and take breaks. 

Additional tips I would recommend are;

  • Be in the moment with who and what you are doing. Don't be thinking about your work to do list when you are on vacation with your family and vice versa. Everyone enjoys there time together more when everyone is present. 
  • Pack on the go snacks (see On the go survival blog post)
  • Have realistic expectations while on vacation and enjoy yourself. 
  • Be able to reset into your normal healthy routine when you get back

It can be difficult to re-group to our regular routine after vacation. It seems like your to do list doubled in order to re-organize yourself; from laundry, to grocery shop and food prep. 

As my wife would say failing to plan is planning to fail. Start planning the life you want for yourself and your family. Begin with you and your families goals and create a plan of action towards them. Plan your budget, your meals, your workouts, family time, unwind or recharge time.
